Seasonal Cooking is a Roadmap

Traditionally, each new season brings new foods to the table. These foods support health and wellness by being appropriate for the time of year, the weather, our activity, energy level, and more. This combined with traditional cooking and preserving techniques gives us a roadmap to health. By following what nature provides in each season and preparing foods with proper cooking techniques, our eating habits and health will naturally improve and balance allowing equilibrium to occur.

“Setting you up to cultivate the skills needed to empower you to take responsibility to make a difference for your health, the health of those you cook for, and the health of the planet … is not an overnight matter. Far beyond an artful interest, cooking is one of the most influential factors in your health care plan. It takes practice, commitment, experimentation, and curiosity.” - Chef Frank Giglio

“Seasonal Eating to Thrive is the perfect solution to my problem.”

“Seasonal Eating to Thrive is the perfect solution to my problem. I have struggled with health issues that my family doctor could not help me figure out. I've struggled with a lot, from digestive issues to chronic pain and weakness, headaches, and hormonal issues. The only approach that has worked has been to change my diet.

I am a foodie who thrives on social connection. Learning to cook delicious, flavourful, versatile food has fed both those personal needs. I am a busy mom of three young boys, and doing research or sifting through piles or recipes is not something I have the capacity for. Barbie's recipes are straightforward and easy to follow, and I am continuously learning the health benefits of various foods. This helps me stay motivated to try new things.

I recommend Seasonal Eating to Thrive to anyone who wants to strengthen their food/health consciousness. It will help you create delicious, super nutritious meals and achieve your desired quality of life.” Louise F

Here’s What Others Have to Say

“Thanks Barbie, you take all of the healthy concepts -- herbs, colored veggies, minerals, sprouting, soaking, good fats, balanced meals -- and weaves them in to our everyday dinner. All you get is tasty foods without even knowing how good the food is for your immune system and all of your organs.”

- Dr. Thao Nguyen M.D., Primary Care

“I am slowly implementing what I learned from the workshop, both in the kitchen and in my daily health regimen, and the changes are notable. I would love more classes like this - the Zoom format brought people from many communities together and was easy to attend virtually. Well done!”

I’m here for you!

I grew up on an organic farm. The food was simple, and nourishing. I loved the food so much so that I went to culinary school in France, became a chef, and enjoyed a fabulous career.

Having three children in five years in my early thirties, I struggled with weight and exhaustion. Getting caught up in diet trends, I followed the zero fat diet of the 1990s and snacked on low-fat goldfish crackers and celery sticks. I was exhausted and continued to gain weight.

I eventually had that "aha moment" that took me back to what I knew and loved. Nutrient-rich foods keep you energized and healthy. I've never looked back. That’s been 24 years!

Why choose me and Seasonal Eating to Thrive to support your goals?

  • My culinary education in France & career in food

  • My knowledge of nutrient-dense foods & how to prepare them

  • My connection with health experts that will share their wisdom with us

  • My years of teaching cooking classes love of delicious food

  • My love of community!

You’ll:

☞ Know what to eat to optimize your health

☞ Save on your groceries without cutting corners or coupons

☞ Use efficient cooking techniques for deliciousness and enhanced nutrition

☞ Whip up kitchen essentials like sauces and condiments while avoiding the preservatives and chemicals in store-bought products

☞ Enjoy using a variety of knife skills for functionality and aesthetics of a dish

More Happy Clients -

“Your class was probably my favorite at (another school) because I learned so much and got to try my hand at things as well. Nice balance. You have a fabulous presence that is enthusiastic and engaging, seasoned with humble expertise - obviously the fruit of years of serving your craft but offered in a manner that seeks to be helpful and not condescending. I especially appreciate how your instruction blends nutritional tips and professional techniques geared to the home cook, all presented with the goal of delicious meals for good health. ”

“The recent online course I attended with Barbie Aknin was a treasure trove of teaching that went beyond expectations. Barbie has harvested a wealth of information, seasoned from time and tradition, that would take anyone a lifetime to gather, but have honed it down into understandable and practical steps for everyday cooking for everyday people.

***

Science has finally caught up to these timeless secrets of food and how it impacts our health, and the information they shared was spot on, infused with sound and supported research. The greatest impact I felt was through her kindness and understanding. I was imparted and gained the courage to take even just a few small steps toward change that I know will make a big difference for me and the health of my family.”
— Renay F. MD. Family Doctor. Wife. Mother of 4. Cook-in-progress. :)

“Barbie’s class is wonderful!! After attending, I have come to look at food SO differently than ever before. I look for more seasonal fruits and vegetables, and I try to cook with just whole ingredients (instead of processed food). The information she gave comes from a lifetime of experience and research. I came away feeling inspired to cook and, the food was amazing!”
