I absolutely love Nishinga’s book Real Food All Year. I read it at the beginning of each season. It keeps me on track and reminds me that my body needs the foods that are in season NOW.

In this all-day event, (classes can be taken individually) Nishanga will prepare us for the winter months. The focus will be on warming and healing foods plus fermenting to help keep away winter bugs.

Morning Session: $55 Cooking Slow 10:00 - 12:15 Lecture and Demo. 

Nishanga will share her knowledge on seasonal eating, winter flavors, and fermenting. She’ll discuss the local and traditional foods and cooking techniques that help us nourish our bodies in the colder months, deeply restoring health and protecting us from seasonal illnesses. Join us and learn simple ways to savor the flavors of winter while building your vitality in the new year. The morning session includes:

  • Lecture on seasonal foods with a focus on winter and the impact these foods have on our health. Also covered:
    • What’s in season and how best to prepare it
    • Simple techniques to support winter cooking 

    • Quick fermenting 

    • Time for questions

Join Nishanga for Lunch: $125 12:15 - 1:15 Limited to 10 guests and available for all-day participants only.

  • Join Nishanga for lunch and a time of deep discussion on deep nutrition. Everyone will have opportunity to ask questions.

Afternoon Session: Fermenting & Quick Pickles - $65 - 1:30 - 4:30  Lecture and Hands-On. Includes making two jars of fermented goodness to take home.

Fermentation creates complex and satisfying flavors, preserves and increases the nutritional value of foods. Learn the many health and culinary benefits of fermented foods, and explore  simple ways to create them at home and use them deliciously. The afternoon session includes:

  • A talk by Nishanga on fermentation and gut health

  • Everyone will make two jars of pickles to take home:

    • Quick Miso Pickles

    • Preserved Lemon

  • Nishanga will share tips on how to use leftover "brine" in other recipes

Morning & Afternoon Session - $95 - 10:00 to 4:30 with a one hour break from 12:15 - 1:15 to grab lunch in the area.

Dr. Nishanga Bliss, D.Sc., L.Ac. has been practicing in the holistic health field for over 20 years. She is an acupuncturist, herbalist and integrative nutritionist. She is assistant professor of Chinese medicine at the Acupuncture and Integrative Medicine College in Berkeley, California where she also grows, cooks, ferments, savors, teaches and writes about sustainable food. Nishanga specializes in Internal Medicine with an emphasis on whole foods nutrition, women’s health, and mental health.
